LONDON — Fighters from the North American Aerospace Protection Command (NORAD) on Sunday intercepted a Russian plane within the Alaskan Air Protection Identification Zone for the third time prior to now week, the command mentioned in an announcement.
One E-3 Sentry command and management plane, two F-16 fighters and two KC-135s Stratotankers have been dispatched “to intercept and visually establish” a Russian Il-20 surveillance and reconnaissance working within the Alaskan ADIZ, NORAD mentioned.
The Russian plane remained in worldwide airspace and didn’t enter American or Canadian airspace, NORAD mentioned in its assertion. “This Russian exercise within the Alaskan ADIZ happens often and isn’t seen as a risk,” it added.
An ADIZ “begins the place sovereign airspace ends and is an outlined stretch of worldwide airspace that requires the prepared identification of all plane within the curiosity of nationwide safety,” NORAD mentioned.
