    Sand, Rock Mining Faces Stern Restrictions

    Monrovia- December 12, 2025: The Liberian Senate is mulling robust restrictions within the mining sector as its Joint Committee on Lands & Mines and Inner Affairs is requested to overview a proposal requiring sand and rock miners to pay royalties to the Authorities of Liberia.

    The choice follows a request from Grand Kru County Senator Numene T. H. Bartekwa, who highlighted the necessity for regulation within the business.

    Senator Bartekwa lamented that Liberia’s sand and rock assets are being exploited with little to no advantages to the federal government or affected communities.

    He famous that overseas nationals are buying mining licenses and extracting these assets with out paying royalties, inflicting environmental harm and destroying infrastructure.

    The Senator expressed concern over the destructive impression on native communities, together with air pollution, well being dangers, and destruction of roads.

    The Senate has endorsed a movement to probe the matter and advise plenary.

    The transfer goals to make sure that the federal government and affected communities obtain honest compensation for the extraction of those pure assets.
