    NEC Board of Commissioners Reaffirms Commitment to Credible Electoral Governance

    BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County, February 17, 2026 — The Board of Commissioners (BOC) of the Nationwide Elections Fee of Liberia (NEC-Liberia) has emphatically reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, moral management, and credible electoral governance, signaling renewed dedication to safeguard Liberia’s democratic processes.

    The Commissioners solidified their resolve on Saturday, February 14, 2026, with the signing of a Communiqué on the shut of a five-day Strategic Retreat in Buchanan.

    The high-level retreat supplied a platform for reflection, institutional recalibration, and consensus-building because the Fee charts its path for future electoral engagements.

    Held underneath the theme, “Strengthening Management, Legislation, and Collaboration for Credible Electoral Governance,” the retreat emphasised the significance of integrity, unity, teamwork, and efficient management in managing Liberia’s electoral system. Commissioners described the gathering as a pivotal second to bolster inner cohesion and recommit to the Fee’s statutory mandate.

    Led by NEC Chairperson Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, Board members delivered statements underscoring collective duty and moral management. The Chairperson careworn the necessity for sustained institutional self-discipline, highlighting public belief because the Fee’s most respected asset.

    Co-Chairperson Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves emphasised the need of clear, constant communication amongst Board members, whereas Commissioner Boakai A. Dukuly referred to as for management by instance. Commissioners Barsee Leo Kpangbai, Floyd O. Sayor, Cllr. Ernestine Morgan Awar, and Josephine Kou Gaye echoed comparable sentiments, specializing in team-building, unity, and strict adherence to the Fee’s mandate. The Communiqué reaffirmed that “credible elections stay central to Liberia’s democratic stability, peace, and growth.”

    Katherine Inexperienced, Chief Technical Advisor of the UNDP Liberia Electoral Help Undertaking, talking on behalf of the European Union, praised NEC-Liberia for endeavor the retreat, describing it as important for guaranteeing electoral processes stay consistent with moral and worldwide requirements. The EU reiterated its ongoing help for NEC-Liberia.

    UNDP-Liberia Resident Consultant Aliou Mamadou DIA referred to as the retreat a interval of reflection and renewed dedication, urging Commissioners to boost institutional resilience by moral management, mutual respect, and a shared sense of objective.

    The retreat additionally benefited from the insights of distinguished facilitators, together with Prof. Wilson Tarpeh, Rev. Foday Karpeh, Cllr. Bornah Varmah, Chairman of the Legislation Reform Fee, veteran journalist Frank Sainworla, Cllr. Finley Kangar from the Workplace of the Ombudsman, and Cllr. Cyril Jones of Jones and Jones Legislation Agency.

    In the meantime, the Board has directed Govt Director Anthony Ok. Sengbe to prepare an analogous retreat for Administrators throughout all NEC sections to deepen cohesion and improve operational effectiveness because the Fee advances its mandate.

    The Buchanan Communiqué, signed by all seven Commissioners, stands as a declaration of unity and resolve, reinforcing NEC-Liberia’s pledge to uphold credible, accountable, and clear electoral governance in Liberia.
