Monrovia – Felony Courtroom ‘C’ in Monrovia has sentenced a 38-year-old Liberian girl, Rita Williams, to 3 years and 6 months in jail after she pleaded responsible to trafficking 1.9 kilograms of cocaine.
Williams admitted in open courtroom on Thursday to smuggling the medicine, which have an estimated road worth of over US$100,000.
Her arrest adopted a routine inspection by officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Company (LDEA) on the Klay checkpoint close to the Guinean border in August 2024.
Authorities mentioned the cocaine was discovered hidden inside Williams’ bag as she tried to go by way of the checkpoint. She was subsequently charged with unlawful possession and trafficking of narcotics, resulting in her indictment by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County.
Following her responsible plea, the courtroom sentenced her to serve three years and 6 months on the Monrovia Central Jail.
The LDEA has reiterated its dedication to strengthening border surveillance and disrupting drug trafficking networks.
