    Liberia: President Boakai Declares August 24 as National Flag Day; Holiday to Be Observed Monday, August 25

    Monrovia, August 22, 2025 – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has by Proclamation declared Sunday, August 24, 2025, as “Nationwide Flag Day.” In line with custom, the vacation can be noticed on Monday, August 25, 2025, as a public vacation all through the Republic.

    In response to a launch from the Ministry of Overseas Affairs, the Proclamation calls on all residents and overseas residents inside Liberia to look at the Day by displaying the Nationwide Flag from properties and public buildings. All authorities places of work, in addition to public and enterprise institutions, are anticipated to stay closed in observance.

    The observance is in step with an Act of the Legislature accredited on October 25, 1915, which declared August 24 of every 12 months as Nationwide Flag Day—a vacation put aside to honor the Nationwide Ensign as a logo of Liberia’s sovereignty, independence, and unity.

    This 12 months’s celebration, beneath the theme “The Flag We Increase, The Values We Uphold,” can be organized by the Ministry of Schooling in collaboration with the Flag Day Planning Committee, comprising key authorities ministries and businesses. Cllr. Jallah Barbu will function the keynote speaker on the indoor program.

    The Nationwide Flag, designed by a committee of Liberian girls led by Mrs. Susannah Lewis in 1847, is considered a historic emblem of Africa’s first republic. It consists of 11 alternating purple and white stripes representing the eleven signers of the Declaration of Independence, and a blue sq. with a single white star symbolizing Liberia as the primary unbiased African state.

    Flag Day actions will start with a basic rehearsal on Friday, August 22, 2025, on the Barclay Coaching Heart. On Monday, August 25, a parade that includes 30 faculties and youth teams will march from the Barclay Coaching Heart via UN Drive to the Centennial Memorial Pavilion. The official program, starting at 10:00 a.m., will embody a pass-in-review earlier than President Boakai, Vice President Jeremiah Koung, members of the fifty fifth Legislature, and different dignitaries. President Boakai is predicted to ship a particular Flag Day message throughout the ceremony.
