    Liberia: Opposition CDC Calls Emergency Meeting to Defend Detained Lawmakers

    Monrovia – The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has referred to as an emergency assembly of its Nationwide Government Committee and grassroots management to rally in protection of celebration lawmakers presently in police custody.

    Former Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, together with Representatives Dixon Seboe, Abu Kamara, Jacob Debee and Priscilla Cooper of the ruling Unity Social gathering had been ordered to spend the evening on the Liberia Nationwide Police (LNP) headquarters on Friday, following their arrest in reference to the current “arson assault” on the Capitol Constructing.

    In a strongly worded assertion issued late Friday night and signed by the CDC’s Nationwide Government Committee, the celebration described the arrests as politically motivated and referred to as on all celebration buildings to mobilize.

    “The Nationwide Government Committee of the Mighty Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) hereby summons all stalwarts, buildings, and grassroots commanders to an emergency revolutionary assembly on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM sharp. This crucial gathering can be held at our Nationwide Headquarters,” the assertion learn.

    The CDC emphasised that the assembly is just not routine however a strategic rallying level to defend the celebration’s core values and shield its leaders from what it views as political persecution.

    “This isn’t simply one other assembly—it’s a strategic rallying level in protection of our motion, our legacy, and our folks,” the assertion added.

    The celebration accused President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of orchestrating what it referred to as a politically pushed crackdown, describing the arrests as an affront to democracy.

    “Let or not it’s recognized: Boakai’s political conceitedness has reached its finish! The folks’s revolution is awake, and the CDC stays ever able to confront repression, defend democracy, and protect the features of our revolutionary wrestle,” the discharge asserted.

    The celebration additionally took intention at what it termed the “bare conceitedness” of the Boakai administration, referencing the president’s current invitation to nationwide unity talks, which the CDC says was a distraction from what it calls a “dangerous mission” of silencing opposition voices.
