    Liberia: Lawmakers Express Concerns Over House Speaker Koon’s ‘Continued Absence’ from Session

    Whereas Speaker Koon has been seen often in his Capitol Constructing workplace, he has not appeared within the official chambers throughout formal classes. Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah (above left) presides within the speaker’s absence.

    Monrovia — Lawmakers within the Home of Representatives have expressed rising concern over the extended absence of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon from legislative classes.

    Speaker Koon has reportedly missed greater than six consecutive sittings, elevating questions on his management and the influence of his absence on the Home’s capability to conduct important legislative enterprise.

    As the pinnacle of the Home and your entire Legislature, the Speaker’s constant participation is crucial to managing the legislative agenda and guaranteeing clean operations. 

    His absence in the course of the 14th day sitting of the second session of the second quarter of the fifty fifth Legislature, held simply two weeks in the past, intensified these considerations.

    Whereas Speaker Koon has been seen often in his Capitol Constructing workplace, he has not appeared within the official chambers throughout formal classes. There was no official clarification offered for his absence, together with his current journey to neighboring Guinea.

    A number of lawmakers voiced their frustration. Bong County District 5 Consultant Eugene Kollie stated, “The Speaker’s absence isn’t just a private matter — it’s a matter of public service. We want our leaders to be current and concerned, particularly as we make selections that have an effect on hundreds of thousands of Liberians.”

    Gbarpolu County District 2 Consultant Luther Collins referred to as for transparency, stating, “The Liberian individuals deserve assurance that their representatives are working inside a completely functioning authorities. We hope to see the Speaker return to the ground quickly and resume his tasks.”
