The Unity Occasion-led authorities is going through renewed scrutiny over allegations of nepotism following the appointment and retention of a number of members of the Kruah household in influential public positions.

The scenario raises questions on benefit, equity, and the administration’s dedication to inclusive governance.

Late Wednesday, January 22, 2026, President Joseph Boakai introduced a cupboard reshuffle that included key modifications to the Ministry of Youth and Sports activities and the Liberia Refugee Repatriation Fee (LRRC).

As a part of the reshuffle, former Minister of Youth and Sports activities, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu, was appointed Govt Director of the LRRC. In the meantime, Atty. Cornelia Kruah, the daughter of Labor Minister Cooper Kruah was named the brand new Minister of Youth and Sports activities, leaving her earlier position as Deputy Minister for Administration on the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs.

The appointments have sparked blended public reactions, with many critics describing the transfer as nepotism.

In accordance with former Assistant Minister for Info Companies, Mathew Nyanplu, the difficulty has drawn specific consideration as a result of the Boakai administration beforehand criticized related appointments underneath the Weah administration, for instance, the appointment of Janga Kowo as Comptroller Basic whereas his spouse, Roseline, headed the Public Procurement and Concessions Fee (PPCC).

Nonetheless, Nyanplu, alongside a number of opposition figures and odd residents, argues that Cornelia Kruah’s appointment raises considerations about nepotism. Her father at present serves as Minister of Labor, whereas her partner, Clarence Massaquoi, is Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA), a place that critics say concentrates energy inside a single household in a small economic system.

As the talk continues, many Liberians are questioning the reasoning behind President Boakai’s current appointments and whether or not the federal government is prioritizing benefit or familial ties.
