    Monrovia, January 12, 2026: The Authorities of Liberia has introduced {that a} capturing incident that precipitated panic amongst residents of the Jedepo Nyennawiliaken group in Sinoe County has been introduced underneath management, with calm totally restored to the realm.

    In line with authorities, members of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and residents of the affected communities are actually dwelling peacefully following interventions by native and nationwide leaders.

    On Thursday, January 8, 2026, the New Daybreak reported that at about 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, AFL personnel entered Jedepo Nyennawiliaken and close by communities in Sinoe County and discharged dwell ammunition. The incident precipitated widespread concern and compelled many residents to flee into close by forests for security.

    The paper quoted Sinoe County Electoral District #2 Consultant Samson Q. Wiah as saying that the capturing coincided with conventional Grebo cultural rites in Nyanagoleke, the place adolescent boys have been being initiated into manhood.     Nevertheless, Consultant Wiah alleged that some AFL personnel, who had deserted their assigned posts and have been current in civilian communities, have been inebriated and tried to disrupt the ceremony.

    He mentioned when conventional authorities sought to implement customary guidelines, the troopers allegedly resisted and opened hearth, discharging a number of rounds and creating concern within the city. He added that related incidents had reportedly occurred in different communities, together with Batikeng (Jerepok Batikeng).

    Describing the scenario as troubling, Consultant Wiah advised a information convention that he reported the matter to senior AFL authorities, who assured him that corrective actions could be taken.

    Responding to the incident over the weekend, Info Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah advised our reporter that the scenario was a minor misunderstanding between AFL personnel and residents.

    He defined that the scenario started when a conventional masquerade appeared, and group members requested AFL personnel to go indoors, which the troopers reportedly seen as affecting their safety duties.

    He mentioned some youths later threw stones in an try and pressure the troopers indoors, prompting the troopers to fireplace just a few warning photographs into the air as a deterrent.

    In line with the Minister, the elders of the county intervened, and the matter was peacefully resolved.

    “Thankfully, the photographs have been fired into the air, and nobody was harmed. From the Authorities’s standpoint, the scenario has been resolved,” Minister Piah mentioned. -Edited by Othello B. Garblah.
