Justice Gbeisay will now assume the position as head of the Supreme Courtroom of Liberia, pending formal commissioning by the President.

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has overwhelmingly confirmed Affiliate Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay as the following Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia.

    By Obediah Johnson

Plenary, the Senate’s highest decision-making physique, took the choice throughout its common session on Thursday, July 17, following the submission of a report from its Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Claims, and Petitions.

Justice Gbeisay was not too long ago nominated by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to succeed outgoing Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Youh, who has reached the obligatory retirement age as stipulated by the Liberian Structure.

Article 72(b) of the 1986 Structure offers:
“The Chief Justice and Affiliate Justices of the Supreme Courtroom and judges of the subordinate courts of file shall be retired on the age of seventy; supplied, nonetheless, {that a} Justice or Decide could proceed in workplace for so long as could also be essential to allow him to render judgment or carry out another judicial obligation in regard to proceedings entertained by him earlier than he attained the age of seventy.”

The movement to verify Justice Gbeisay was filed by Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon. Out of the 24 Senators current through the session, all voted in favor of the affirmation.

Justice Gbeisay will now assume the position as head of the Supreme Courtroom of Liberia, pending formal commissioning by the President.
