    Liberia: Court Denies Government’s Motion to Quash Bond for Former Speaker Koffa, Co-Defendants in Capitol Arson Case

    Within the ruling Decide Ben Barco declared that the bond meets the authorized necessities outlined underneath Chapter 13 of Liberia’s Felony Process Regulation./ Koffa flanked by an aide, Reps. Kamara, Seboe and Debee.

    Monrovia – The Monrovia Metropolis Courtroom has denied a movement filed by state prosecutors to nullify the felony look bond posted by former Home Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa and several other co-defendants in reference to the Capitol Constructing arson case.

    In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Decide Ben Barco declared that the bond meets the authorized necessities outlined underneath Chapter 13 of Liberia’s Felony Process Regulation. “The courtroom finds that the bond is legally ample,” Decide Barco mentioned. “The movement to quash the bond is hereby denied.”

    The ruling permits Koffa and his co-defendants to stay free pending trial.

    Koffa and others have been accused of involvement in a current arson assault on the Capitol Constructing — an incident that has drawn nationwide consideration and heightened political tensions.

    In response to the costs, Koffa and his authorized staff filed a felony look bond to safe his launch in the course of the authorized proceedings. Nevertheless, prosecutors challenged the bond, claiming it didn’t replicate the monetary gravity of the alleged offense and failed to ensure the defendants’ look in courtroom.
