Jimmy Cliff, Jamaican Reggae Icon, Is Lifeless

Jimmy Cliff, the Jamaican reggae singer who helped popularize the style all over the world with songs like “You Can Get It If You Actually Need” and “The More durable They Come,” has died. He was 81.

Music is like air that we breathe. And as soon as it’s there, everyone breathes it. The trade, to me, is the primary time I got here out of my mom’s womb. And I say [screaming] — and I began making my sound and I by no means stopped. Music can spotlight consciousness. And from that consciousness, folks can take some form of motion to higher the state of affairs. I believe that’s the function music has performed via the ages. And I believe it’s the function that it’s enjoying now. And I believe that’s the function that it may play.

Jimmy Cliff, the Jamaican reggae singer who helped popularize the style all over the world with songs like “You Can Get It If You Actually Need” and “The More durable They Come,” has died. He was 81.
