    Liberia: House Suspends Traffic Management Deal Pending Full-Scale Investigation Amid Protests

    CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia – The Home of Representatives has taken decisive motion to halt all operations by the Liberia Site visitors Administration (LTM) pending a full-scale investigation and assessment of the settlement.

    The choice adopted a number of hours of management assembly and protest by aggrieved staff of the Ministry of Transport and collaborating drivers and transport unions.     

    The assembly, which was held on Monday, August 4, 2025, comes on the heel of a petition by aggrieved employees of the Ministry of Transport, which known as for fast suspension of operations by the LTM. The transfer comes amid rising issues over the legality and transparency surrounding the concession settlement between LTM and the Authorities.

    In a message delivered by Home Press Director, Robert Haynes, to tons of of protesters on the grounds of the Capitol and subsequently in an interview with FrontPage Africa, he defined that the Home management choice is an final result of a report by the Home Joint Committee on Concession and Transport.

    Based on him, the Plenary of the Home had earlier instructed its Joint Committee on Concessions and Transport to research the employees’ complaints and supply suggestions.

    “The Plenary mandated the Joint Committee on Concessions and Transport to look into the petition submitted by the aggrieved staff of the Ministry of Transport. Following that, the Joint Committee reported to the management with key suggestions,” mentioned Mr/ Haynes.

    Among the many suggestions, the Home management has communicated with the Government Department, urging it to right away halt the operations of LTM pending a full-scale assessment and investigation of the corporate’s concession settlement.

    “The report recommends that the Inspector Normal of the Liberia Nationwide Police be mandated to work alongside the Ministry of Transport to implement the Liberia Motor Automobile and Site visitors Legal guidelines and {that a} keep order be positioned on the operations of Liberia Site visitors Administration whereas the Ministry of Transport resumes its statutory features.”

    The Home management in its Monday’s assembly endorsed the committee’s report, signaling legislative assist for a brief freeze on LTM’s site visitors administration actions throughout the nation.

    This improvement follows weeks of public criticism and inner ministry unrest over LTM’s position in site visitors enforcement, with claims that its operations overlap and undermine the statutory duties of the Ministry of Transport and Liberia Nationwide Police.

    The Ministry of Transport has now been instructed to renew its full statutory obligations instantly, whereas the investigation into LTM’s concession deal unfolds.

    Accordingly, in the course of the protest, the protesters held placards with completely different inscriptions and chanted completely different slogans calling for the cancelling of what they termed as a ‘bogus settlement.’

    A number of drivers who joined the protest cried out over the fixed issuance of ‘huge cash’ tickets by the LTM, one thing which in accordance with them, continues to make life insufferable for them.

    “We aren’t motivated by any politician. Our protest is void of politics. However the objective of this gathering is to hunt justice from our lawmakers and our President. We had our first assembly and our petition was given to the Legislature.  We aren’t in opposition to authorities’s insurance policies, however insurance policies which are in opposition to our folks,” said Omaru A. Fofanah, President of the Collaborating Transport Union.
